Faucet Repair, Installation and Replacement

If you are planning on installing a faucet in your home or need to repair the one that you have, then this mini-guide was created just for you. Faucets are not only functional, bu they can be a way to show off your personal style in your kitchen or bathroom. However, faucet repair, installation or replacement can be costly to install if you decide to hire someone else to do it for you. So, here's all that you need to know about fixing or installing that new faucet.

What to do beforehand - You're going to want to clean the area around the faucet opening and make sure that you have a bucket handy to catch any leftover water. You can block the drain opening with a wash cloth or towel, and then turn off the water valve that's leading to the faucet.

Connect the supply lines, then position the faucet and apply the sealant - Next, you'll have to connect the supply lines to the tailpieces of your new faucet, then tighten the coupling nuts with a pair of pliers or a wrench. Once this has been done, you can apply caulk or plumber's putty around the base of the faucet and insert the supply lines and tailpieces into the sink holes, before positing the base of the faucet on to the sink.

Screw on the mounting nuts - You'll have to get underneath the sink for this step, and are going to screw on the mounting nuts and washers with a pair of pliers or a wrench in order to secure the faucet. If you notice any excess putty or caulk, then now is the time to wipe it away.

Connect supply lines to the shut off valves and apply sealant to the base of the sprayer - You should attach the supply lines to the shut off valves and tighten the nuts, before going to the surface of the sink again and applying sealant to the base of the sprayer. Next, you'll have to put the tailpiece of the sprayer into its allocated hole.

Screw in the mounting nuts and the sprayer hose - After going underneath the sink again, you can screw the mounting nut onto the tailpiece of the sprayer and tighten it, then screw the sprayer hose onto the hose that is on the bottom of your new faucet. You'll probably have to tighten the hose nut using your hands.

Turn on the water and make sure everything is flowing smoothly - Switch on the valves again and make certain that there aren't any leaks anywhere and that everything is working properly. If you notice any leaks in the areas where you used caulk or putty, then just apply more.
